Photo Friday: Spring in Amalfi’s Harbor

Fishing Boat in Amalfi

The beautiful spring weather has all eyes turned toward the beaches and water in Amalfi. The wooden slats are being replaced on the boat docks in the harbor, and soon trucks will arrive one after another bringing back the many privately owned boats that are removed for the winter months. The beaches are being cleaned and pushed back into shape after the winter storms, and the seaside restaurants are getting a new coat of paint. Fishing boats have been pulled up onto the beach to get that new coat of paint, too. This little fishing boat looked like it could use some tender loving care. It belongs to one of the men that works in the harbor on the boats, and it has a busy life going between all the boats and checking the buoys and docks. The busy time of year in Amalfi’s harbor has arrived!

    And I can’t wait to take it all in!!! I love how Easter fosters new coats of paint, novel enthusiasm and the airing out of winter on the Costiera.
    Soooooo excited about our imminent meeting too.

    My son is beside himself, I can barely contain him until then.

    Start making a list of Pos places you’d like to visit together (and if they’re food-slanted, I’m game).

      Ciao Eleonora,
      I’m thrilled that you and your son can make it down over Pasqua! I know how much you love it here and a visit back will be good for both of you. We’ll hope this nice spring continues with sunshine over Easter while you’re here! Can’t wait to meet both of you … and to get to know your Positano. It’s a town that I love, but that I know very little about. I’m open to seeing (and eating!) anything! 🙂
      A presto,
      Laura

A little bit delayed due to Winter Storm Olive in the midwest, but I was greeted in central Nebraska by blue skies and flocks of Sandhill cranes and snow geese. “Oh, to love what is lovely” as Mary Oliver wrote about that joyful experience of seeing snow geese golden in a sunny sky. ✨

I do nearly every morning and it’s curious to me what shows up. Usually it’s something I’ve been listening to, but sometimes it’s really random, like someone’s left the music room door slightly ajar in the brain. This morning it was a jaunty version of “Loch Lomond” from the 1940s sung by Maxine Sullivan. (You’d think that would be from the random category but I actually listened to it yesterday.) So that’s what was swinging about in my head as I took a walk early this morning. 🎶

Musing On The Roaring Ocean
by Robert Burns

Musing on the roaring ocean,
Which divides my love and me;
Wearying heav’n in warm devotion,
For his weal where’er he be.

Hope and Fear’s alternate billow
Yielding late to Nature’s law,
Whispering spirits round my pillow,
Talk of him that’s far awa.

Ye whom sorrow never wounded,
Ye who never shed a tear,
Care-untroubled, joy-surrounded,
Gaudy day to you is dear.

Gentle night, do thou befriend me,
Downy sleep, the curtain draw;
Spirits kind, again attend me,
Talk of him that’s far awa!
