Photo Friday: Sorrento Sunset

Sunset over Bay of Naples from Sorrento

For as much as I love Amalfi, the sunsets just aren’t as striking as you’ll see from Positano or on the northern side of the Sorrento Peninsula. The Capo di Conca juts out into the sea beyond the town of Conca dei Marini blocking out the best view of the setting sun. While I do love watching the warm glow of the evening light on the mountains just west of Amalfi, it’s always lovely to get the chance to see a spectacular sunset. For a fabulous view, just drive west from Amalfi anywhere past Conca dei Marini or past the Capo Sottile to the Vettica Maggiore side of Praiano to catch a glimpse of a beautiful sunset on the Amalfi Coast.

A couple of weeks ago we made a last minute evening trip to Sorrento to take a look a look at the motorino that would soon be my Liberty. As we were leaving and following the twisting road leading over to the Amalfi Coast Road, we noticed the mountains were all tinted pink. Turning around, this was the stunning view behind us! I made the Tour Guide pull over at the next curve possible, and I ran like a silly fool down a hill to take this shot. Do you see the cruise boat in the Sorrento harbor? I do love a good sunset!

Happy weekend to everyone!

    Love your photo. I just came back from two weeks in Priano. The sea view and View of Positano sunsets are half the reason I always stay there. They are amazing.Nit of a cool spell when I first arrived, but still loved watching to boats and sunsets.

      Ciao Sher! Oh … how lucky to see so many beautiful sunsets from Praiano! I love to get over there to see the evening lights, but I don’t as often as I would like. The views from Praiano are so lovely. Happy you had a great time on the Amalfi Coast!

I do nearly every morning and it’s curious to me what shows up. Usually it’s something I’ve been listening to, but sometimes it’s really random, like someone’s left the music room door slightly ajar in the brain. This morning it was a jaunty version of “Loch Lomond” from the 1940s sung by Maxine Sullivan. (You’d think that would be from the random category but I actually listened to it yesterday.) So that’s what was swinging about in my head as I took a walk early this morning. 🎶

Musing On The Roaring Ocean

Musing on the roaring ocean,
Which divides my love and me;
Wearying heav’n in warm devotion,
For his weal where’er he be.

Hope and Fear’s alternate billow
Yielding late to Nature’s law,
Whispering spirits round my pillow,

Spirits kind, again attend me,

This morning—after four days of rainy and cloudy mornings—I watched sunrise over the Cilento coastline across the Gulf of Salerno. Late morning it started raining again and it hasn’t stopped. This little pocket of beauty was exhilarating!
