A Change of Seasons

Over the past week and Easter weekend, the weather has changed from spring to winter and back to spring again on the Amalfi Coast. After a rainy and cold Saturday, the sun peeked out for a little bit on Easter Sunday before another storm came through in the evening. I popped my head outside the window just long enough to take one photo after Easter lunch with family in Vettica. It was a beautiful moment.

Amalfi Coast Rainbow for Easter

As the raindrops started to fall again, it made me stop to appreciate the beauty of spring and the change of seasons. The sunshine breaking through the clouds and forming a rainbow, a gentle rain turning the soil a deep, rich brown, the buds on the plants opening to form bright green leaves – signs of spring that seem to resonate within me more this year than usual. It feels as though a change of seasons is taking place inside me right now as I begin to walk down many new paths, in my relationship with my husband after our wedding this winter, in new writing work that fuels my passions and in a focus on finishing the first draft of the novel with my mother this year. I look forward to discovering where these new paths will lead … and to enjoying the new sights along the way. May this spring bring you new discoveries and many beautiful moments!

Thanks Scarlett! The double rainbow was faint, but it was definitely there. Started to pour again seconds after I took that photo, so I couldn’t get a better one to show it. But it’s there for those that look carefully like you. Thank you for your sweet comment!

Hi Laura, I just stumbled onto your blog and am enjoying it very much. I still have lots of family in Vettica and Lone di Amalfi, though it’s been 10 years since I’ve been there. Ciao.

It’s a topic that has been on my mind a great deal lately, as it is like clockwork every six months as I go through my usual round of check ups. She spoke so gently and simply about how when she looks back on the experience now she sees all the gifts that it brought her - something that hit me on a profound level. Gifts.

I don’t know exactly why I’ve hung on to this little appointment card from Tuesday, June 15, 2021. It was for my first ultrasound where the breast cancer was found. It’s not exactly the sort of thing to be sentimental over. Looking at it today—three years later—and feeling very grateful for everything being clear and good after the latest tests, I thought of this song. This card is a little souvenir of a terrible year. But, after that recent conversation, I realized that I don’t look back at it that way anymore. Because it was also a colorful year in so many ways. Maybe I’ve hung onto it because I needed to realize that the biggest gift I can give myself is to remember the gifts. Thanks, Sally! 💙

I love having a birthday in June. But since I will be back in Nebraska with family for my birthday later this month (for the first time in years! 🎉), I’m making sure I really sit and notice everything I love about this month in Amalfi. And, yes, I’m one of those people who stretches out birthday celebrations for as long as possible! 💙
