A Summer Morning in Atrani

A beautiful Saturday morning and I needed a few photos for an article I was writing on the town of Atrani on the Amalfi Coast. There was only one thing to do … a photo outing! It was a peaceful morning, and I saw only a few people while I wandered through town taking photos. Head over to Charming Italy to see some of the photos and to read more about Atrani, a little town just around the corner from Amalfi. I was inspired by the quiet beauty of Atrani that morning and took quite a few photos. For all my readers who love Atrani, here are some of my favorites that didn’t make it into the article.  Enjoy!

Lovely! Makes me miss one of our fave restaurants, L’Arcate, right on the waterfront – have you tried it?

Hi, my fiance and I are considering heading to the Amalfi coast for our honeymoon. It looks absolutely perfect! The thing is though, the we are only able to go in late november to early December. Do you think a winter visit is a good idea? When do the Christmas markets and lights start up around Amalfi?

    Thanks!

      Ciao Evie,
First …congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! I love the Amalfi Coast year round, but certainly most of the things that people come for are different from the summer to winter. But on a beautiful and clear day the views are still just as pretty! Also, at the end of November is the winter festival for Sant’ Andrea in Amalfi, which is a huge and very local celebration. It’s hard to say with the Christmas lights, but they’re usually up toward the beginning of December, and the shopping and events are fun. It’s just that it can be quite chilly … in that damp and humid sort of way. Like I said … I love it year round, and on this hot and sticky summer day … thinking of the quiet autumn days sounds pretty nice! 🙂
      Happy honeymoon planning!

Looks like the beach recovered nicely from the mudslide last summer, which I happened to be there when it occured.

Ciao Tara! I imagine that was quite an impressive and scary experience! I was down in Atrani the morning after, and it was very sad. The beach was put back into place rather late this season … but today it was packed with people and looked back to normal!

But not just any mess, a conspicuous and intricate mess. I think we can all find a few of those around these days. Now you know what to call it in Italian!

The steps up between these two hamlets of Scala are quite steep, but it was a perfect autumn morning. Brilliant sun but a cool north breeze and the air full of the honeyed scent of sweet alyssum (which I can spot thanks to Giacomo from @cookeatsquare!) and birdsong. As a little reward to myself for the unexpected effort, I meandered a bit to enjoy the crimson vines and some sunflowers dancing in the breeze. Autumn is coming - even on the Amalfi Coast! 🍂
You have to look close for any signs of autumn in You have to look close for any signs of autumn in Amalfi. Surrounded mostly by olive, lemon, pines, and other types of evergreen trees, we don’t have much for fall foliage right in the center of town. Oh but I look! In the golden moments of the morning just as the sun hits Amalfi for the first time, I’m out there imagining autumn colors. 🍂

Mmmhmm autumn is definitely my favorite season. 🧡 This morning I woke up a bit earlier than my alarm and looked outside somewhat perplexed. The entire sky, the town—everything—had a burnt orange hue. A hurried lacing up of the shoes and still bleary eyed, but I just had to see it better for myself. It was a glorious sunrise. Now the rain has just gently started falling and I’m in full autumn ecstasy.

Later I’ll return to the piano to pick up where I left off yesterday learning this beautiful autumn waltz by @andreavanzo_composer. 🍂
