Tempting Tuesday: Stunning Sunsets on the Amalfi Coast

I am sure many of you are already aware of the severe earthquake that struck the region of Abruzzo, northeast of Rome, very early Monday morning. I have been devastated watching the footage on the videos and seeing the photographs. It is just devastating. (If you are looking for more information on the earthquake, Jessica over at WhyGo Italy has compiled a list of sources.) My heart goes out to those families who have lost so very much. I hope for all of my readers that your friends and family in Italy are safe.

Needing a moment of peace and reflection, I found myself looking at some photographs I took recently of a beautiful sunset on the Amalfi Coast. It is truly one of the most enchanting times of the day in this part of Italy, as the sun decorates the coastline and horizon in stunning colors and the sun sinks into the sea. One of the best viewpoints I have found for watching the sunset is from the city of Priano, just east of Positano. From Priano, you can see the undulating coastline all the way to the tip of the Amalfi Coast, the Li Galli islands off Positano, and Capri with its signature Faraglioni rocks. Next time you are on the Amalfi Coast, I suggest planning to be in the Priano area to see one of the beautiful sunsets in person. Simply stunning!

Where have you experienced beautiful sunsets in Italy?

Beautiful. And thanks for the info. Think I’ll post it too. Did you see the Yahoo clip that people from Nebraska are the happiest in the US. It was on their homepage yesterday! haha.

Ciao Karen! No, I missed that Yahoo clip about Nebraskans. How funny! I will have to search for it. I saw a bunch of sandhill cranes out in then cornfields yesterday, and that made me happy! 🙂

Ciao Chuck! Grazie! The sunsets are so stunning along the Amalfi Coast, aren’t they? I took that not long ago when we were driving to Priano. One of the many moments where I made my boyfriend suddenly stop the car in a precarious location (aren’t they all on the Amalfi Coast?) while I dashed across the road to take a photograph. He is starting to anticipate those moments now and stop without me asking! 🙂

Ciao Susane! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! You picked a mighty fine time to come back to the Amalfi Coast. October is beautiful! The evenings can be a bit chilly sometimes (light jacket), but I was on the beach often last October throughout the month. Beautiful time of year! I love Conca, too. I bet you are excited!

It’s a topic that has been on my mind a great deal lately, as it is like clockwork every six months as I go through my usual round of check ups. She spoke so gently and simply about how when she looks back on the experience now she sees all the gifts that it brought her - something that hit me on a profound level. Gifts.

I don’t know exactly why I’ve hung on to this little appointment card from Tuesday, June 15, 2021. It was for my first ultrasound where the breast cancer was found. It’s not exactly the sort of thing to be sentimental over. Looking at it today—three years later—and feeling very grateful for everything being clear and good after the latest tests, I thought of this song. This card is a little souvenir of a terrible year. But, after that recent conversation, I realized that I don’t look back at it that way anymore. Because it was also a colorful year in so many ways. Maybe I’ve hung onto it because I needed to realize that the biggest gift I can give myself is to remember the gifts. Thanks, Sally! 💙

What I love about June in Amalfi: the brilliant bo What I love about June in Amalfi: the brilliant bougainvillea against the deep blue sky, the screams of swifts swirling above the Cathedral early in the morning, the way the air is still a little cool before the sun rises over town, the rows of colorful beach umbrellas, the way the scent of our neighbor’s jasmine suddenly arrives inside our home, the return of friends who come in the summer, and warm walks along the sea after dark.

I love having a birthday in June. But since I will be back in Nebraska with family for my birthday later this month (for the first time in years! 🎉), I’m making sure I really sit and notice everything I love about this month in Amalfi. And, yes, I’m one of those people who stretches out birthday celebrations for as long as possible! 💙
