Sunday Shout-out: When I Have Time

Since starting Ciao Amalfi two months ago, I have had such a pleasant experience meeting and interacting with the expat blogging community here in Italy. Everyone has been lovely and incredibly helpful in so many ways! I have left comments and sent emails full of questions, with topics ranging from tech problems to privacy issues, and I have always received cheerful responses and great advice. I want to say grazie mille to everyone for making me feel so welcome! It has inspired me to start a weekly feature called “Sunday Shout-out” where I can share with you some of the great blogs and websites I have been discovering. On the topic of help and advice, the first Sunday Shout-out goes to the fabulous Sara Rosso of the blog Ms. Adventures in Italy. Check out her new project called When I Have Time, where she offers “Tips, Info and How-To’s to Bridge the Gap between Meek and Geek.”

I have been reading there this week about copyright and Creative Commons and buying a domain, and her “Ask the Geek” section is great. Sara has a real talent for explaining potentially complicated or murky topics in a clear and concise manner. As a new blogger, this type of information is invaluable. A big shout-out to Sara for starting this great new website! Head on over with your technical questions you haven’t known who to ask before!

It’s a topic that has been on my mind a great deal lately, as it is like clockwork every six months as I go through my usual round of check ups. She spoke so gently and simply about how when she looks back on the experience now she sees all the gifts that it brought her - something that hit me on a profound level. Gifts.

I don’t know exactly why I’ve hung on to this little appointment card from Tuesday, June 15, 2021. It was for my first ultrasound where the breast cancer was found. It’s not exactly the sort of thing to be sentimental over. Looking at it today—three years later—and feeling very grateful for everything being clear and good after the latest tests, I thought of this song. This card is a little souvenir of a terrible year. But, after that recent conversation, I realized that I don’t look back at it that way anymore. Because it was also a colorful year in so many ways. Maybe I’ve hung onto it because I needed to realize that the biggest gift I can give myself is to remember the gifts. Thanks, Sally! 💙

I love having a birthday in June. But since I will be back in Nebraska with family for my birthday later this month (for the first time in years! 🎉), I’m making sure I really sit and notice everything I love about this month in Amalfi. And, yes, I’m one of those people who stretches out birthday celebrations for as long as possible! 💙
