Today is the feast day celebrating Saint Mary Magdalen, or Santa Maria Maddalena as she is called here in Italy. On the Amalfi Coast it is the biggest celebration of the year for the city of Atrani, just a hop, skip, and a jump from Amalfi. The Collegiata di S. Maria Maddalena sits proudly atop the city of Atrani with its beautiful and distinctive 16th-century campanile.
The city of Atrani has been setting up lights and preparing for the celebrations all week. The fireworks started yesterday. Tonight I will experience this festival and visit the inside of this important church for the first time. Photos and videos to come!

Aaah! We were there last year, Alexander and I took a walk to Atrani and enjoyed the parade and marching band. Have a great time tonight!

Ciao Chuck! Atrani is such a beautiful little city. I don't spend as much time there as I should. Last night I walked up and down a lot of little side streets and steep staircases that I hadn't explored before. Beautiful city!

Hi Laura, we are just back in Ireland having spent a wonderful 2 weeks in our favourite place in Italy, Atrani. We really enjoyed the festival. Great fireworks and the band, from Bari I believe, played favourites from Puccini and Verdi. They were amazing. The procession was also very moving.
Atrani has beautiful people, weather, food, scenery and sea. Greetings to Maria and Salvatori Pinto who rent us a wonderful appartment each year (this is our 7th.) and to all our friends and the gang at La Risacca Bar.
Cant wait to see you all next year.

Ciao Una & Maria! How lovely that you were in Atrani for two weeks! It is one of my favorite cities on the Amalfi Coast, and it doesn't get nearly as much credit as it deserves. Perhaps that is a good thing! 🙂 The festival was a blast! I wonder if we crossed paths that night? I have pictures and videos to share from the festival, so I hope you will stop back by again soon! I attended the Feast again this year, and carried the Saint again, this is the fourth year for me, I was also made a member of the committee that sponsors the event, my parents were born there and have many cousins there, I am the past president of the same organization in New Haven, Ct. This is the place most of those people coming to American came to.
