A Magical Evening of Tango on the Amalfi Coast

beltango_r

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from my friend Lisa at Wanderlust Women’s Travel Dreams telling me about a tango event happening on the Amalfi Coast. Lisa asked me “pretty, pretty please with skittles on top” to do a post on the evening of tango dancing. Would I mind? Well, Lisa and I share a passion for the Amalfi Coast, but little did she know of my secret desire to learn how to play the bandoneon. While I’m not much of a dancer, I do love tango music. So I was definitely there!

The evening was cool and a breeze was blowing gently in the beautiful Piazzetta in Pontone, Scala. My videos don’t begin to capture the magic of the evening – with the seductive sound of music floating through the piazza, the rhythm of the dancers steps, the tangible allure of the tango filling the air.

Wish you were here to see this, Lisa!

SO cool. I love dancing. Alas, one more reason I wish geography would reconsider and push the coast closer to Calabria. 🙂

Ciao Cherrye! I know… wish it wasn't so far down to Calabria. Once I learn how to drive the manual transmission car here… road trip! 🙂

    Grazie, cara,
Looks like a scene from a romantic old movie….too bad Fellini couldn't get the lighting better. LOL

What a great evening that must have been and outside as well. Certainly not warm enough for such an evening event like that here in Northern Lazio yet 🙁

Thanks for this lovely post, Laura!! I tango, and have been fantasizing about playing tango violin too… so lovely to hear that you want to learn to play the bandoneon! You should definitely do it 🙂

Prego Lisa! Oh, I know… Fellini would have gotten the lighting much better. 🙂

Ciao LindyLouMac! It was a bit chilly for us non-dancers, but probably nice for the dancers. Warm weather is just around the corner!

Ciao Stella! Yes, my neighbors would love that! 🙂 I'm so glad you enjoyed the post!

Ciao Pat! I really enjoyed the music and the setting, and it seemed the dancers were having a nice time, too.

When I walked by this ceramic table in Praiano, it When I walked by this ceramic table in Praiano, it reminded me of one of my favorite Italian words: garbuglio. It means a tangle or a mess. But not just any mess, a conspicuous and intricate mess. I think we can all find a few of those around these days. Now you know what to call it in Italian!

The steps up between these two hamlets of Scala are quite steep, but it was a perfect autumn morning. Brilliant sun but a cool north breeze and the air full of the honeyed scent of sweet alyssum (which I can spot thanks to Giacomo from @cookeatsquare!) and birdsong. As a little reward to myself for the unexpected effort, I meandered a bit to enjoy the crimson vines and some sunflowers dancing in the breeze. Autumn is coming - even on the Amalfi Coast! 🍂
You have to look close for any signs of autumn in You have to look close for any signs of autumn in Amalfi. Surrounded mostly by olive, lemon, pines, and other types of evergreen trees, we don’t have much for fall foliage right in the center of town. Oh but I look! In the golden moments of the morning just as the sun hits Amalfi for the first time, I’m out there imagining autumn colors. 🍂

Mmmhmm autumn is definitely my favorite season. 🧡 This morning I woke up a bit earlier than my alarm and looked outside somewhat perplexed. The entire sky, the town—everything—had a burnt orange hue. A hurried lacing up of the shoes and still bleary eyed, but I just had to see it better for myself. It was a glorious sunrise. Now the rain has just gently started falling and I’m in full autumn ecstasy.

Later I’ll return to the piano to pick up where I left off yesterday learning this beautiful autumn waltz by @andreavanzo_composer. 🍂

It was fun to see the grapes on the same vines just before harvest begins. Swipe to the right to see the same grapes back in May. Happy autumn!
