Sunday Shout-out: Ciao Chow Linda

From Positano to … Princeton! This week I opened the mailbox and found this lovely postcard from Linda at  Ciao Chow Linda. When I posted about the first blogger postcard swap I did with Anne in Oxfordshire, Linda commented and offered to send me a postcard from her ...

Taking the boat to Positano

The easiest and most scenic way to move about on the Amalfi Coast is certainly by boat. You avoid the sometimes crowded public SITA buses, the traffic jams or periodic road blocks, and you get to see the beautiful Amalfi Coast from the sea. Yesterday I hopped on the 11:30am ...

Today I am very excited to be heading to Positano for a meet up with fellow bloggers and expats based here on the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento arranged by Scintilla over at Bell’Avventura. How fun! Positano is such a  beautiful city, and I am happy for a lovely excuse to head ...

July Banner: Celebrating Bougainvillea on the Amalfi Coast

One of my favorite plants on the Amalfi Coast is the lush and brightly colored bougainvillea that seems to grown in every nook and cranny, over terraces and around doors. I’ve even spied it climbing up the railings on staircases. It is flowering and lovely this time of year, making ...

Weekend ✨✨✨ in Amalfi. Weekend ✨✨✨ in Amalfi.

It’s a topic that has been on my mind a great deal lately, as it is like clockwork every six months as I go through my usual round of check ups. She spoke so gently and simply about how when she looks back on the experience now she sees all the gifts that it brought her - something that hit me on a profound level. Gifts.

I don’t know exactly why I’ve hung on to this little appointment card from Tuesday, June 15, 2021. It was for my first ultrasound where the breast cancer was found. It’s not exactly the sort of thing to be sentimental over. Looking at it today—three years later—and feeling very grateful for everything being clear and good after the latest tests, I thought of this song. This card is a little souvenir of a terrible year. But, after that recent conversation, I realized that I don’t look back at it that way anymore. Because it was also a colorful year in so many ways. Maybe I’ve hung onto it because I needed to realize that the biggest gift I can give myself is to remember the gifts. Thanks, Sally! 💙

What I love about June in Amalfi: the brilliant bo What I love about June in Amalfi: the brilliant bougainvillea against the deep blue sky, the screams of swifts swirling above the Cathedral early in the morning, the way the air is still a little cool before the sun rises over town, the rows of colorful beach umbrellas, the way the scent of our neighbor’s jasmine suddenly arrives inside our home, the return of friends who come in the summer, and warm walks along the sea after dark.

I love having a birthday in June. But since I will be back in Nebraska with family for my birthday later this month (for the first time in years! 🎉), I’m making sure I really sit and notice everything I love about this month in Amalfi. And, yes, I’m one of those people who stretches out birthday celebrations for as long as possible! 💙
