Sunday Shout-out: Bell’Avventura

Spring was just about to arrive when I left the Amalfi Coast two weeks ago for my trip to America. The plants were budding and blossoms were starting to appear. Around a corner I caught a glimpse of wisteria and around another peach blossoms. When I left, I knew that spring would be in full swing by the time I returned in three weeks. After reading Scintilla’s most recent post over at Bell’Avventura, called Rhapsody in Blue, about the beautiful flowers in her garden in Positano, I now know that I have quite a surprise in store for me when I return next week. Head on over and see Scintilla’s beautiful Positano garden photographs and read about her Easter visit to Positano.

Seeing the lovely flowers in her garden made me so happy today that I couldn’t resist including Bell’Avventura as this week’s Sunday Shout-out. One of my favorite blogs, Scintilla knows how to tell a good story and always in the most beautiful way. I also love reading about life just down the road in Positano. Due to the road closures and the rainy spring weather, I haven’t been over to Positano nearly as often as I would like. Now that I see these photos I realize just what I am missing!

I am pretty sure that life doesn’t get any better than sitting under a pergola of wisteria! I have sweet memories of reading under wisteria and watching the petals blow off in the breeze and slowly flutter down to land on my book. I can’t wait to see it myself next week! Hang on Spring . . . I am coming!

Ciao Scintilla! But thank YOU for all the wonderful words and photographs you share! I discovered when I lived in Washington, DC, of all places, that I absolutely love wisteria. Your garden pergola looks like a little piece of heaven to me!

The other blog – would that be the Amalfi Coast Daily Photo? I did just create that. Do you think people will like it? I really enjoy the daily photo websites like Rome Daily Photo and Venice Daily Photo, and I love photographing the Amalfi Coast. I thought it seemed like a good combination! I haven’t done anything with it yet, because I am traveling and I am not sure I can take it on myself at the moment. If you are interested, or if you know anyone who might be interested in collaborating, please do let me know. Thanks!

I suddenly realize my reader has lost Scintilla’s blog! That’s why I hadn’t heard from her!!!

Your gracious shout-outs are always so great, Laura. Brava.

I wanted to thank you for leaving your kind comments on my blog and wished to reassure that I will not entirely disappear, I will post a little less and have fewer chances to run through my blogroll every night like I do now.

    Ciao and hurry home

I hope it will be truly spring by the time you get here. It’s chilly and rainy over here on the Adriatic Coast…

Ciao Lola! Always happy to help out! And always happy to hear from you when time permits. I do know about busy schedules! Good luck with work, and I will make sure we keep in touch! I am on my way back in a few days… coming soon now! 🙂

Ciao Karen! Grazie! If I remember correctly, I actually saw Scintilla’s blog on South of Rome. So many thanks to you, too! 🙂

Ciao Saretta! The weather looks like it will be pretty rainy all week in Amalfi. Sorry to hear it is for you, too. I hope there is some sun by this weekend! Either way I will be happy to be home. Thanks for writing!

Ciao Chuck! I just love wisteria and was so happy to discover it grows on the Amalfi Coast so well. Now I just have to figure out where it might work in my garden…. think think think… 🙂

Ciao Linda! Nice to meet you! And thank you for commenting and introducing me to your great blog. Spaghetti with broccoli rabe is one of my favorites! In Scala, which is a city located up in the mountains above Amalfi, there is a chestnut festival in the autumn every year. But it really could be a broccoli festival as well since it coincides with the good broccoli season there. I look forward to trying your wonderful looking recipes and following your site!

Mmmhmm autumn is definitely my favorite season. 🧡 This morning I woke up a bit earlier than my alarm and looked outside somewhat perplexed. The entire sky, the town—everything—had a burnt orange hue. A hurried lacing up of the shoes and still bleary eyed, but I just had to see it better for myself. It was a glorious sunrise. Now the rain has just gently started falling and I’m in full autumn ecstasy.

Later I’ll return to the piano to pick up where I left off yesterday learning this beautiful autumn waltz by @andreavanzo_composer. 🍂

It was fun to see the grapes on the same vines just before harvest begins. Swipe to the right to see the same grapes back in May. Happy autumn!

This morning was a little cloudy when I went out f This morning was a little cloudy when I went out for my morning walk like I do most mornings in Amalfi. Down the coast, across the Gulf of Salerno, rays of light were shining right on the city of Salerno. I had set out with Salerno on my mind because it was there that 82 years ago today—on September 9, 1943—the Landing of Salerno began during WWII. My Grandpa was in the Army during the war - a lot of it in Italy. Yet he would never speak of where he was or what he did, and certainly had no desire to ever see Italy again after the war. While he probably wasn’t in that first landing in Salerno, he would have been somewhere in Italy, perhaps further south in Calabria or in Sicily. I always think of him during these days and wonder about those hard experiences he must have had in Italy. And very grateful for what he and so many fought for and endured.

If you ever visit Salerno, south of the city there’s an Allied War Cemetery that is a moving and important place to visit. 🤍
Have I ever shared one of my favorite poems about Have I ever shared one of my favorite poems about Amalfi? It’s by the American poet Sara Teasdale (1884-1933). It’s simple and it’s heartbreaking - like first loves so often are. But I think about it often, especially on night walks in Amalfi.

Night Song At Amalfi

I asked the heaven of stars
What I should give my love —
It answered me with silence,
Silence above.

I asked the darkened sea
Down where the fishers go —
It answered me with silence,
Silence below.

Oh, I could give him weeping,
Or I could give him song —
But how can I give silence,
My whole life long?
