Out & About

Since I was fifteen, I have loved taking photographs. I still have my first Kodak camera, a Christmas present from my mother, which I just can’t bear to get rid of. So many memories were captured with that camera! Nowadays, I often have my small digital camera tucked in some pocket or my purse. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find me out and about without a camera on me. (And just when you thought you did, I would pull out my cell phone, which has TWO cameras!) Inspired by these thoughts earlier today, I decided to start a new series of posts called “Out & About” where I can share these little moments of life here on the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy!

Today it is finally time to say ciao to the Christmas decorations in Amalfi!

The workers have started to repair the damaged port in Amalfi.

Today we encountered an Amalfi Coast roadblock of a different sort.

I love when we get stopped by sheep on the road. It’s such a vivid reminder of where we are!

That camera is a great part of you, and it shows in your photo’s! Those sheep were snacking or a bit hungry!

Ciao Valerie! I like seeing the sheep and goats on the road, too. I particularly love the sound of the bells on the sheep all together. They make such a beautiful sound! Hiking up in the mountains here you can often hear the tinkling of a few bells before coming across a couple of sheep grazing on a terrace. Lovely!

Ciao Chuck! Grazie! Since I was stuck behind the sheep trying to get home for lunch, I am going to go with the sheep were hungry! 🙂

Such a good idea to have the camera always with you. However on that one day you DON’T have it…is when there is something great to take a picture of…or maybe that is just me 🙂

Ciao Leanne! I hope you are having a great vacation… love your pictures from the Canary Islands! Yes, some of the best things do seem to happen when I forget my camera. Good thing my cell phone has not one but two cameras! 🙂

When I walked by this ceramic table in Praiano, it When I walked by this ceramic table in Praiano, it reminded me of one of my favorite Italian words: garbuglio. It means a tangle or a mess. But not just any mess, a conspicuous and intricate mess. I think we can all find a few of those around these days. Now you know what to call it in Italian!
Completely unplanned, I ended up getting off the b Completely unplanned, I ended up getting off the bus in Pontone this morning instead of Minuta. The steps up between these two hamlets of Scala are quite steep, but it was a perfect autumn morning. Brilliant sun but a cool north breeze and the air full of the honeyed scent of sweet alyssum (which I can spot thanks to Giacomo from @cookeatsquare!) and birdsong. As a little reward to myself for the unexpected effort, I meandered a bit to enjoy the crimson vines and some sunflowers dancing in the breeze. Autumn is coming - even on the Amalfi Coast! 🍂
You have to look close for any signs of autumn in You have to look close for any signs of autumn in Amalfi. Surrounded mostly by olive, lemon, pines, and other types of evergreen trees, we don’t have much for fall foliage right in the center of town. Oh but I look! In the golden moments of the morning just as the sun hits Amalfi for the first time, I’m out there imagining autumn colors. 🍂

Mmmhmm autumn is definitely my favorite season. 🧡 This morning I woke up a bit earlier than my alarm and looked outside somewhat perplexed. The entire sky, the town—everything—had a burnt orange hue. A hurried lacing up of the shoes and still bleary eyed, but I just had to see it better for myself. It was a glorious sunrise. Now the rain has just gently started falling and I’m in full autumn ecstasy.

Later I’ll return to the piano to pick up where I left off yesterday learning this beautiful autumn waltz by @andreavanzo_composer. 🍂

It was fun to see the grapes on the same vines just before harvest begins. Swipe to the right to see the same grapes back in May. Happy autumn!
