Ciao Amalfi

Buon Primo Maggio!

Amalfi Coast Travel May-1

As I sit down to write this morning, rain is pouring down on the Amalfi Coast and low clouds have turned my view into nothing but white. Spring arrived early this year, but the last couple of weeks have been a most unwelcome return to winter. Yet the rains will clear and when the sun shines everything will be an even more brilliant shade of green. This truly is my favorite time of year watching the Amalfi Coast come to life!

Amalfi Coast Travel May-2

Spring has been busy this year in so many wonderful ways. I’ve been to Paris for work, Florence for fun and Rome and exploring the Amalfi Coast with some of my family – visiting Italy for the first time! So many happy memories and amazing experiences along the way. In Paris, I did a one-on-one mentoring day with the incomparable Carla Coulson, which was an incredible day from start to finish. Couldn’t possibly put into words how much that one day has changed everything, but I will soon try in a blog post all about it.

Florence in the Spring

Then I dashed off to Florence for a long weekend with Michelle from Bleeding Espresso and the cutest two year old in Italy. I spent the weekend being a My Little Pony (Miss Pommel to be precise) and it was so much fun! And having my family visit here and being able to show them this beautiful part of Italy that I am fortunate to call home has been a very special time. The weather was a bit finicky, but we had a great time!

Behind the scenes, I’m also working on a complete redesign of Ciao Amalfi, which I am really impatient to share with all of you. (There’s just this pesky four page to do list before I can launch the new website …) Today may be the Festa del lavoro (Labor Day) in Italy, but there’s no rest for me as I want to launch the new website as soon as possible. So hang tight a little longer! In the meantime, I’m back to blogging and have so many fun things to share soon from this spring. Happy May Day!

A spectacular view of a truly spectacular place as A spectacular view of a truly spectacular place as I flew out of Naples yesterday morning. A little bit delayed due to Winter Storm Olive in the midwest, but I was greeted in central Nebraska by blue skies and flocks of Sandhill cranes and snow geese. “Oh, to love what is lovely” as Mary Oliver wrote about that joyful experience of seeing snow geese golden in a sunny sky. ✨

Non Amalfi Coast question. Do you wake up in the m Non Amalfi Coast question. Do you wake up in the morning with music or a song in your head? I do nearly every morning and it’s curious to me what shows up. Usually it’s something I’ve been listening to, but sometimes it’s really random, like someone’s left the music room door slightly ajar in the brain. This morning it was a jaunty version of “Loch Lomond” from the 1940s sung by Maxine Sullivan. (You’d think that would be from the random category but I actually listened to it yesterday.) So that’s what was swinging about in my head as I took a walk early this morning. 🎶

Musing On The Roaring Ocean
by Robert Burns

Musing on the roaring ocean,
Which divides my love and me;
Wearying heav’n in warm devotion,
For his weal where’er he be.

Hope and Fear’s alternate billow
Yielding late to Nature’s law,
Whispering spirits round my pillow,
Talk of him that’s far awa.

Ye whom sorrow never wounded,
Ye who never shed a tear,
Care-untroubled, joy-surrounded,
Gaudy day to you is dear.

Gentle night, do thou befriend me,
Downy sleep, the curtain draw;
Spirits kind, again attend me,
Talk of him that’s far awa!
