Photo Friday: Sea of Blue Umbrellas in Atrani

Ciao Amalfi Coast Blog Atrani Beach Umbrellas

Who doesn’t like photographs? Who doesn’t like Fridays? So what’s not to love about a new Amalfi Coast Photo Friday series on Ciao Amalfi?! This time of year it seems I have my camera out just about every day taking shots of religious festivals, summer events, beautiful scenery or fun trips to the beach. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite moments from daily life each Friday on Ciao Amalfi. This week is a shot of the sea of blue umbrellas at the beach in Atrani. I took this yesterday evening after all the beach goers had gone home for the day. There was something pristine and still about the scene. I love the striking contrast between the black sandy beach and the vibrantly colored umbrellas and sun chairs. Last summer I wrote about Atrani’s beautiful beach, but I haven’t been swimming there yet this year. I think I need to remedy that soon!

Happy Friday!!

    Ciao Erin! I'm glad that I could bring back happy memories with this photograph. 🙂

    Ciao Gil! The beach was a little oasis of calm… in a very busy Atrani! I was there for the biggest festival of the year, which was just about to start as I snapped this. I'll have photos and videos of the festival up soon! 🙂

    Ciao Chuck! This beach is always very tempting to me. The road is just above the beach, and when you drive by you can see the beautiful water and this striped blue umbrellas. Time to hit the beach! 🙂

    Ciao Eleonora! You're too kind. Right now I'm just using a small Kodak point and shoot, but it's been a good camera. I have dreams for a Nikon D90… but those are just dreams! 🙂

I do nearly every morning and it’s curious to me what shows up. Usually it’s something I’ve been listening to, but sometimes it’s really random, like someone’s left the music room door slightly ajar in the brain. This morning it was a jaunty version of “Loch Lomond” from the 1940s sung by Maxine Sullivan. (You’d think that would be from the random category but I actually listened to it yesterday.) So that’s what was swinging about in my head as I took a walk early this morning. 🎶

Musing On The Roaring Ocean
by Robert Burns

Musing on the roaring ocean,
Which divides my love and me;
Wearying heav’n in warm devotion,
For his weal where’er he be.

Hope and Fear’s alternate billow
Yielding late to Nature’s law,
Whispering spirits round my pillow,
Talk of him that’s far awa.

Ye whom sorrow never wounded,
Ye who never shed a tear,
Care-untroubled, joy-surrounded,
Gaudy day to you is dear.

Gentle night, do thou befriend me,
Downy sleep, the curtain draw;
Spirits kind, again attend me,
Talk of him that’s far awa!
